I don’t just want to tell my story. I want to give people the space to tell their own stories. Stories in which people followed their own inner voice. Went in new directions. Broke rules. Grew. Because there are so many unbelievable stories that need to be told!
The story of Miricalls
Who are you?
I am Miricalls from Stuttgart. I’m 24 and I’m a musician. I’m influenced musically by Brit pop, and I write my own songs. I’m always traveling with my amazing band. For example, two weeks ago, we were the opening act for Christina Aguilera at JazzOpen in Stuttgart. And next week, we’re opening for Tom Jones in Ludwigsburg.
What do you see as your calling?
I’m amazed by the world, and am always excited by everything there is to discover in nature. I put all of that, and all of my thoughts and feelings into my songs, and I want to encourage everyone to walk the world with wide open eyes, and share the motto I live by: The world is full of wonder, and it’s up to you whether you see that or not.
When did you start to follow your own inner voice?
I grew up as the daughter of a violin maker and was lucky enough to have music in my home day and night. That was how I first came into contact with music. At six, I started playing cello, and at 12, I’d written my first song, and later I taught myself guitar and piano.
What stumbling blocks did you encounter on your journey?
Now those first songs are ten years behind me, and in that time, my own self-doubt as well as criticism from others have been significant challenges. And then to continue on and to keep going even if success doesn’t come immediately. That was definitely my first stumbling block.
Are there parallels between your path and the Stranger’s project?
There certainly are parallels, for example that I also very much enjoy taking time for myself. Just like him in the cube with his piano, I also enjoy going out, spending time alone with myself, becoming aware of who I am, what I’m doing, what I want, and finding my way there.
How would you encourage other people to follow their inner voice?
I think time helps you to find your inner voice. Making a conscious choice to take that time. Time just for you, time out in nature. Especially in nature. I always feel very grateful there, very content, and am always in awe and excited about how beautiful everything is. Then I also notice how beautiful we are, and everything that’s in us. And then just going with that, reflecting on your own thoughts and feelings, and then writing them down as well. And the next thing is to dream, to think about what you want in life. Set yourself little goals that you can achieve easily, to give yourself little bits of success; but also set huge goals, and at some point achieve them. That’s what I wish for you!
